I’m sure that we have all heard the expression, a picture is worth a thousand words. At times, however, a picture can spark conversations that are worth much more.
Some concern has been voiced by many fans after a picture of popstar Ariana Grande appeared online. As she was looking very thin, so many people and even medical experts are concerned about her health.
The image was said to be taken in December during the screening of the upcoming film, Wicked. She looks a lot thinner than she has in previous months, causing people to speculate and to voice their concerns on social media.
30-year-old Grande has managed to lose some weight in recent years. She claims that this is because she lives a vegan lifestyle but some health professionals are saying that her appearance is indicative of a potentially serious issue.
A New York-based weight loss expert, Dr. Sue Decotiis weighed in on her appearance, saying that the protruding collarbone and invisible ribs are concerning.
The doctor said: “It looks like she’s lost a substantial amount of weight. Her eyes appear more prominent, which can be a sign of drastic weight loss or even thyroid disease.”
Dr. Decotiis did offer a possible reason why, saying that the singer could be suffering from hypothyroidism. That condition affects the thyroid causing the gland not to produce enough thyroid hormone to regulate the metabolism.
There are numerous possible symptoms of hypothyroidism, but it could include fatigue, fertility problems, and unintentional weight loss.
My primary concern would be bone density loss,” Dr. Decotiis went on to say. “Women who lose too much weight can experience dangerously low estrogen levels, potentially leading to missed periods, fertility problems, and a higher risk of injury.”
Grande’s appearance has been a topic of discussion in the past, even when she was a star on Nickelodeon. In recent months, however, she seems to have lost a considerable amount of weight and it was seen in the promotion of Wicked.
Fans are also saying that is possible she may be taking a weight loss medication, Ozempic. That medication, which was originally for diabetics is very popular because of its ability to help an individual lose weight.
Dr. Decotiis spoke about her appearance further, saying: “Her upper body looks child-like. Her gaunt appearance is consistent with someone who is significantly underweight.”
The doctor is also not a supporter of plant-based diets, especially when the patient needs to maintain bone and muscle mass. She said: “A vegan diet often lacking of enough protein, which is essential for overall health. Without proper nutrients, your hormones, bones, muscles, and even your heart can be negatively impacted.”
The singer has discussed her struggles with her emotional health and well-being after the 2017 Manchester Arena concert bombing that claimed 22 lives.
Some people turn to food for comfort during times of stress,” Dr. Decotiis added. “Others, like Grande, may experience a loss of appetite as an outcome of anxiety or PTSD. For some, controlling food intake becomes the only way to feel a sense of control.”
