Have you ever noticed that there are certain movies that just seem to inspire you to greater things? I wouldn’t necessarily say that Dirty Dancing is one of those movies, but it sure was a fantastic flick to watch.
Although dirty dancing is decades old now, it is still something that is shown on TV regularly and it is probably one of the best-known movies of all time. The funny thing is, it wasn’t thought that it was going to be a blockbuster, it was just a surprise that it did so well.
If you happen to be in the very small percentage of those who never saw the movie, it is starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Those two seem to do fantastic on the screen, but there was a lot of struggling in the background.
In fact, the way they worked together was not exactly ideal and in some cases, there has been a lot of complaining back and forth between the two of them over the years. Perhaps it was the enmity that they seemed to have with each other that works so well and gave them the chemistry that translated onto the screen as it should.
Dirty Dancing is more than a dance movie, it is a romance movie. Patrick Swayze, who played the part of Johnny Castle came from a different world than Jennifer Grey, played by Baby. Although they were in different worlds, they got along great in the screenplay.
Throughout the movie, there are many iconic scenes that you can’t help but remember after you’ve watched the flick. This includes the famous lift at the end of the movie and when Johnny says “Nobody puts Baby in a corner.”
What you may not know is that one of the most famous and well-known scenes in the movie was not supposed to be there. It was improv, and it came about because Patrick Swayze was very frustrated with the way his counterpart was acting.
When they were dancing to the song Hungry Eyes, Patrick Swayze ran his hand down her arm. The thing is, she was so ticklish that she couldn’t help but laugh and she continued to do so in one shot after another.
Considering the fact that Patrick Swayze already hated her in real life, it was little wonder that he was rolling his eyes and looking rather disgusted every time she laughed. It came across in the movie, and it actually added a lot to the scene.
So the next time you have an opportunity to watch Dirty Dancing, watch for that scene. You may never look at it the same way again.
