Over 4 Million Johnny Depp Fans Sign Petition to Have Amber Heard ‘Cancelled’ From Aquaman 2

At this time, over 4 million fans of Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp have signed a petition calling for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment to remove Amber Heard from the upcoming Aquaman 2 sequel[1]. The Change.org petition[2] to remove Heard was started by Jeanne Larson in the fall of 2020, just after Depp announced through his Instagram[3] that Waner Bros. Studio was forcing him to resign his role as Gellert Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts franchise.

In his post, the 58-year-old actor explained how the studio wished for him to resign from the role after he’d lost a libel case against The Sun in the UK.

CNN Reports[4] that Depp sued the British tabloid as well as executive editor Dan Wootton after the paper initially published an article titled with the disturbing headline”GONE POTTY: How can JK Rowling be ‘genuinely happy’ casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?[5]”

Depp lost his libel case, as BBC News reports[6] that the judge in the trial ruled in the tabloid’s favor saying the information they published was “substantially true.”

But, today, due to the attention both Depp and heard are receiving from their ongoing and highly publicized defamation trial in the U.S., Larson’s petition has picked up considerable steam.

The petition, titled “Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2,” calls for Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment to have Heard removed from their Aquaman sequel. In the description, Larson says:

“Amber Heard has been exposed as a domestic abuser by Johnny Depp.”

“In his $50 million lawsuit, Johnny Depp describes many incidents of domestic abuse that he suffered at the hands of his (then) wife Amber Heard, including one incident where she punched him twice in the face and another where she shattered his finger with a vodka bottle, and his finger had to be surgically reattached. He will bear the scar from that for the rest of his life.”

The description concludes: “As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project. They must not ignore the suffering of Heard’s victims and must not glamorize a domestic abuser.”

“Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry.

“Do the right thing. Remove Amber Heard from Aquaman 2.”

Larson’s petition currently has just over 4.1 million signatures and grows each day exponentially.

Depp is currently suing his ex-wife after Heard described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse” in an op-ed written by the actress and published by the Washington Post in 2018[7].

However, Depp has denied all allegations and says he was never physically abusive toward Heard.

NBC News reports [8] that Heard has launched a counter-lawsuit against Depp for $100 million. The actress says that she had only become violent against her ex-husband in self-defense or while defending or little sister.

In 2018, Heard was cast in the top-grossing comic book blockbuster Aquaman opposite Jason Momoa playing Mera, the princess of Xebel and the titular character’s main love interest.

Thus far, heard said to have already shot her scenes for the sequel. However, many believe her scenes can be deleted and replaced, much as the makers of “All the Money in the World” had done when they replaced Kevin Spacey with actor Christopher Plumber following numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against the House of Cards star.

But, despite online clamor, Peter Safran, Aquaman 2’s producer, says that will not happen. In an interview with Deadline Heor Nation Podcast[9], he said the creators were not going to “react” to what he described as “pure fan pressure.”

“You gotta do what’s best for the movie,” Safran said. “We felt that if it’s James Wan, and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That’s really what it was.”

Recently movie critic Grace Randolf tweeted a claim that Heard’s total screentime in the sequel film is just under ten minutes. However, no one connected with the project has yet to confirm this claim.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set for theatrical release in March 2023.
