A nurse on TikTok went viral after reacting to a dad taking diapers from his newborn’s hospital bassinet. The dad filmed himself quietly grabbing the diapers and joking that nobody would notice. The clip caught the attention of Miki, a nurse known for posting about daily life in her job.
In her reaction video, Miki teased the dad by saying, “You know that’s like, illegal, right?” She captioned the post “literally illegal,” which made some viewers think she was serious. But the tone quickly shifted once she explained she was joking.

Miki clarified that taking leftover baby supplies from the hospital is not illegal at all. She explained that she was just having fun and that parents are actually allowed to take those items home. The video, originally posted in 2021, has since picked up millions of likes.
She added, “Just kidding, I’m not a Karen. Hope I didn’t trigger you,” making it clear she was never upset. After that, she shared something many new parents do not realize. According to her, hospitals throw away unused supplies after discharge.
Miki said: “I’m a nurse, and I’m here to tell you that we have to throw away everything after you leave, so you might as well take it home.” She explained that staff are aware parents take items, and no one minds. The supplies are already considered disposable.
Not every nurse tells parents this directly, though. Some parents only find out later or through videos like hers. Others said a nurse personally encouraged them to empty the bassinet and cabinets before leaving.

Parents shared that they were told to take diapers, wipes, blankets, and even items for mom. Things like nipple cream, disposable underwear, pads, and other supplies were included. For first time parents with little money, it made a big difference.
Several nurses and hospital workers backed her up in the comments. One said if it cannot be disinfected, it gets thrown away anyway. Another said diapers, wipes, formula, and small tools are all discarded.
Some parents admitted they were surprised and had no idea it was allowed. A few asked if they really could take everything in the room. The hospital stay can feel like a blur, but now more parents know what is OK to take home.
