We become accustomed to seeing the same person on certain television shows, and that includes the news. For the past 10 years or more, NBC Nightly News has been associated with its main anchor, Lester Holt.
Even though Lester Holt has been the lead on NBC Nightly News for the past decade, the veteran journalist has decided to call it quits. This has been confirmed by the NBC News Executive Vice President of Programming, Janelle Rodriguez.
It was about a decade ago when Holt took over for Brian Williams as the full-time anchor of NBC Nightly News. He is backing away from that position to focus completely on hosting Dateline.
As of now, NBC has not announced a successor for Nightly News. It’s interesting that it also comes on the heels of MSNBC announcing the cancellation of Joy Reid’s show, The ReidOut.
Although Holt has not given an official end date, it is noted that he will continue until early summer. He also wrote a note Monday to staffers for NBC nightly news and dateline. It read:
“A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News, and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat chasing breaking news around San Francisco, I could never have imagined my career path would unfold in the way it has. What an amazing ride.”
