Man Won’t Give Up His Seat For A Pregnant Woman Because He Works Long Hours

If there is one thing we realize about the world around us these days, it’s the fact that people love to argue about things. This is especially true as far as social media is concerned. You don’t have to look very far to find something that is controversial on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms. Just post a single picture or a simple story and before long, people are going to be arguing about it. Every once in a while, however, something sparks controversy that is well worth arguing about, and this is the case.

It seems as if a man openly admits that he will not give up his seat for a pregnant woman because he works for very long hours. The controversy began when the situation was posted on the ‘Am I The A**hole?’ Reddit thread. Users tend to post about some type of conflict that they recently experienced and then the online community has the opportunity to discuss it and either upvote or down vote. The specific thread in question was entitled: “AITA for not giving up my seat to a pregnant woman?” The man who posted it wanted to find out if he was wrong for not giving up his seat to a pregnant woman after working for 10 hours.

He wrote:

“So last night I’m on the bus, and a very heavily pregnant lady gets on. She looks around for a seat, only to find there are no available ones left. I’m the closest to her, so she starts giving me the imploring eyes.

“I wasn’t rude or anything, I just told her no, I’ve had a long day and my feet are sore. I don’t want to give up my seat.

“She started crying about how she’s a pregnant single mom, and I told her I’m sorry, but that was her personal choice and she can’t expect other people to accommodate her life choices.”

He then said that it wasn’t his job to support the woman because she wasn’t able to afford an automobile. An elderly man that was using the bus started to give him a hard time.

You can only imagine the amount of controversy that this created on Reddit. One Reddit user even expressed: “Yeah, whats next, blaming an old person for being old? Blaming deformed people for being born? You see someone who needs a seat, you give it to them. [sic]”

Some other commenters provided support for the man and said that the pregnant woman shouldn’t have been given the seat just because she was pregnant. An example was: “I’m a woman, btw. I just don’t feel like you should be forced to give up your seat because she is pregnant.

“Yes, pregnancy sucks, and it’s uncomfortable as all hell, but that is no reason for you to suffer, imo. You’re in pain, too, and there were plenty of other people who could have stood rather than you.”

And the debate rages on…
