When we break up with our significant other, it often is for a reason that sticks in our minds for months or even years to come. We often don’t get back together because of the memory and how hurtful it is.
When Jenna split up with her boyfriend Mitchell in 2020, she said that she was ‘too overwhelmed by life.’ It was a very difficult time for her and undoubtedly, she thought a lot about what she did before she did it.
It was only a day later, however, that a car accident would seriously injure her now ex-boyfriend, Mitchell. He ended up with a concussion and some amnesia, so he didn’t even remember that they had broken up.
On the day after they broke up, Mitchell was in Beaver Mountain, Utah, to go skiing. The 22-year-old had tried to go off of the jump, but it was ‘super icy’ and he landed on his head. He had blacked out at the time.
After waking up, he was dealing with a ‘pretty severe concussion.’ He also did not remember that Jenna had just dumped him and he called her to ask her to come get him at the hospital.
Jenna said: “Mitch kept messaging me and trying to hang out after his concussion and I was confused as to why he would keep messaging me because we had broken up.
“I thought that maybe he took the statement of staying friends really seriously. It even was to the point when I told him that my roommates and I had a hard day and he came and brought us ice cream.”
She ended up regretting breaking up with Mitchell and turned to him to ask him if they could start dating again. After that, it was obvious that Mitchell had ‘no clue’ that they had already broken up.
Jenna had talked to him about the breakup and what they said when they were in the car. She told him that they had agreed that the relationship would be over.
She said: “He told me he didn’t remember any of that except for chatting in the car. But he didn’t remember what we chatted about.”
Mitchell did think that it was ‘super funny’ that he had forgotten about the breakup. In the end, Jenna noticed that he was relieved and she said: “It made it easy to get back together because to him, we never weren’t together!”
They ended up getting married seven months later in September 2020. She said: “During my husband’s speech, he brought up not remembering the break-up but how he is so grateful that it all worked out in the end.
“We are both 27 now and when people ask us about our love story it’s our favorite part to tell. We really felt invisible strings pulling us together all along.”
