Leonard Cohen Sings Hallelujah Live At The 2008 Montréal Jazz Festival

Music has a way of touching us and, even though we may have a favorite song, there are likely many songs that can make us feel better when we feel down or can change your mood in almost any direction. At times, there are songs that also take things a step further and they become popular and loved by millions of people. Perhaps it is the fact that they were played as part of a movie or it may just be that they have a catchy jingle that gets stuck in our head. In any case, it’s amazing to hear those songs and to see the possibilities.

One of the songs that has been popular for a number of years was written and first performed by a man named Leonard Cohen. The funny thing is, millions of people love the song and perhaps love singing along with it but they may not know that Cohen is responsible for writing it. After all, it was copied by a number of different artists and eventually, it was made popular because of those additional recordings. It was even played in the movie, Shrek, and perhaps that is where people fell in love with it most.

Leonard Cohen was responsible for writing the song, Hallelujah. He had been a songwriter for a number of years but this particular song seems to touch something within those who had the ability to take it to the next level. At first, it wasn’t received very well by those who heard it but after it was redone, it became one of the more popular songs of all time. People continue to redo the song on YouTube videos but watching the original writer of the song sing it is something special.

You can watch Leonard Cohen in the following video performing Hallelujah. It’s interesting to watch him sing it and to watch his interpretation of how it should have been performed. Unfortunately, Cohen died when he was 82 years old but his legend lives on in his music.
