Jim Carrey is making a return to the silver screen, this time coming back for Sonic The Hedgehog 3. This is true, even though he said he would retire after Sonic 2 was released.
The 62-year-old actor will be playing the part of Dr Robotnik in the next installment of the movie series. In case you weren’t aware, his character had fallen off of a gigantic robot in the previous movie, and many were wondering if he would even survive.
This week, Jim Carrey made a statement that caused many people to react strongly. He said that he would return to acting because he ‘needs the money.’
The reason why people were so up in arms over that statement was the fact that he had made $3 million from The Cable Guy, which was released in 1996. With other projects, including his Ace Ventura, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Dumb and Dumber to his credit, he once was worth some $300 million.
In speaking with an AP entertainment reporter about his return to the Sonic series, he said: “I came back to this universe because I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch.
“And you know, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly.”
Previously, he said that he would only come back to acting ‘if the angels suddenly bring me some script written in golden ink, and I realize that it is very important for people to see it.’
Perhaps this new release of the Sonic movie is going to be better than we thought.
Although he did jokingly say that he needed the money, he certainly has not been living on skid row. He has a multimillion-dollar mansion in Los Angeles and has been living in his Maui holiday home while it is on sale. That home was listed for $28.9 million in 2023.
Since he bought the property in 2004 for $3.8 million, he is likely to make quite a bit of profit once it sells. He also has a $1 million car collection.
I guess his finances are his business but we know he loves a good joke. We look forward to the release of Sonic The Hedgehog 3 on December 20.
