Jennifer Lawrence Slammed Over Baby Name Choice

Jennifer Lawrence is catching heat online over the name she gave her first child. Some people say it doesn’t sound like a name at all, more like something random you’d hear and forget.

She and her husband Cooke Maroney had their first baby in 2022. When the name “Cy” was made public, social media lit up with mixed opinions.

One person said: “Is this short for something? It feels incomplete.” Someone else added: “Sounds more like a noise than a name.”

Another commenter didn’t hold back and wrote: “What a ridiculous name. This poor child will be bullied, no doubt.”

But it wasn’t all negative. Some people really liked it and thought the choice made sense for the couple.

One fan posted: “Simple, classy, and meaningful. Not every name needs to be traditional!” Another said: “If it’s inspired by art, it’s beautiful and personal.”

In an interview, Lawrence opened up about how motherhood changed her. She said: “The euphoria is just – Jesus, it’s impossible. I always tell him, ‘I love you so much it’s impossible.’”

She added: “My heart has stretched to a capacity that I didn’t know about. I include my husband in that.”

She also described giving birth as a reset moment in her life. Lawrence said: “The morning after I gave birth, I felt like my whole life had started over. Like, ‘Now is day one of my life.’”

She went on: “I was just so in love. I also fell in love with all babies everywhere. Newborns are just so amazing. They’re these pink, swollen, fragile little survivors.”

Even though she’s opened up a little about her kids, Lawrence has said she wants to keep their lives private. In a previous interview, she said: “Every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives.”

She avoids including them in her public life, and the name “Cy” has a personal connection. It was inspired by Cy Twombly, a postwar American painter her husband really admires.

Jennifer and Cooke had their second baby in early 2025. They haven’t shared the new baby’s name yet.
