Ever since taking office just a few short weeks ago, President Donald Trump has made some changes. He also has said things that tend to get under people’s skin, and it seems that his suggestion that the United States should acquire Greenland is one of them.
Ever since Trump said that the US should acquire Greenland, there has been some back and forth going on. Recently, however, it seems as if Denmark is interested in doing something similar.
In a rather heated phone call with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Donald Trump discussed the possibility that America would take control of Greenland. The Prime Minister was not very happy with the suggestion.
On the other hand, Trump didn’t back down and said that it was an absolute necessity that the US would buy Greenland. He said: “For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity.”
He went on to say: “Greenland is an incredible place. The people will benefit tremendously if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation. We will protect it, cherish it, from a very vicious outside World.
“MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
The Prime Minister, however, has not been shy about letting Trump know that the Denmark territory is not for sale and will not be for sale in the future.
After the suggestion that the US by Greenland, someone made a joke petition that suggested Denmark should purchase California. As of February 13, the petition, ‘Let’s Buy California from Trump – Denmark’s Next Big Adventure’ has over 244,000 signatures.
According to the bio from the petition: “Have you ever looked at a map and thought, ‘You know what Denmark needs? More sunshine, palm trees, and roller skates.’ Well, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality. Let’s buy California from Donald Trump!
“Yes, you heard that right. California could be ours, and we need your help to make it happen.
“It is in the national interest to promote the extraordinary heritage of our Nation. So California will become New Denmark. Los Angeles? More like Løs Ångeles.”
A civil tech activist named Xavier Dutoit is thought to be the originator of the petition and he mentions why he set it up.
It is thought that he was in the bar when he overheard someone saying that it was a good idea for the US to buy Greenland. In his words, it was a ‘discussion of a MAGA-adjacent American that couldn’t quite understand how insane the Greenland proposal is’.
The asking price is aiming for $1 trillion.
