How Do You Hold Your Pen? It Reveals Secrets About Your Personality

Something I never did as a young man was take personality tests. However, when my wife and I got married, she got me into doing various types of tests. We’ve done all of the big personality tests, including Love Languages, the Enneagram Personality Test, the Big 5, Meyers Briggs, and more. These interesting personality tests all have one thing in common: they ask you tons of questions. Then, the test sorts your answers and assigns you a personality type. There’s not a right or wrong type, per se. However, the point is that everyone is different and it takes all kinds of folks to make up the world.

One of my favorite personality tests is a simple visual image. More complex tests can be loads of fun and give you plenty of insight, but the fact is, sometimes a simple test is also revealing. Look at the image below. How do you hold your pen? You may have to pick up a pen and see like I did. Once you’ve chosen your pen holding type, scroll down to see your personality clues.

Option A

In this position, your thumb and index finger are close together like you’re trying to pinch a person. You are a person who is flexible with reasoning and intuition, and you’re not the type to rush to make a conclusion. You tend to act reasonably and your intuition is sensitive. You make decisions based on what feels right. You’re also good at dealing with self-interest issues and you think carefully before taking action.

Option B

If you chose B, you are a person who makes a decision after much calm analysis. You can usually handle the problem in spite of the pressure and you don’t usually make things worse than they are. If you’re in a group, you attract the other people to you because you’re a natural leader.

Option C

In this position, the index finger and middle finger are straight and your fingers don’t bend. You don’t make hasty decisions and you carefully consider all your options. You can deal well with any situation that presents itself to you, and when things go wrong, you can fix it quickly. You are a problem solver, not one to dwell on the mistakes.
