We may sometimes look at celebrities and feel as if they were born with a silver spoon in their mouth. That certainly wasn’t the case for one redheaded boy who played his guitar on the streets of London for pocket change.
That youngster knew that he had some talent and he wanted to share it with others but playing as a busker on the streets of London was not paying the bills. He would sleep on friend’s couches and at times, in the subway or even on a park bench.
Through it all, this individual knew that they had something to offer the world and before long, they would get their big break. These days, Ed Shearin is playing to crowds of thousands of people who can’t get enough of him.
Shearin was born in 1991 in Halifax, England. When he was young, he would perform at open mic nights and he created his own EPs. By the time he was 16, he quit school to pursue music in London but he had a difficult time getting his footing.
That all changed, however, in 2010. He shared a song on the Internet and Jamie Foxx was interested in it. He then brought him to Los Angeles, gave him a place to stay, and allowed him to record in his personal studio. After releasing an EP called No. 5 Collaborations Project, he became well-known.
His voice and his lyrics work together well to gather a following that was ready to hear anything else that he released. It wasn’t long before he became famous with songs, such as ‘Lego House’ and ‘The A Team’.
Just a few years later in 2014, he was performing to sold-out stadiums and releasing one hit after another. He went on to collaborate with big stars, such as Taylor Swift and Eminem. When he released his album x (Multiply) with the wedding song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ it would shoot him to superstardom.
In 2017, Shape of You became one of the most popular and successful singles of all time. It topped the charts in 34 countries and now he went from sleeping on a park bench to being one of the greatest-selling singers of our generation.
