Growing up on television sets brought early fame, but real life brought deep pain.
Hayden Panettiere faced an unbearable blow in February 2023 when her younger brother Jansen died at age 28. He passed away from aortic valve complications and an undiagnosed enlarged heart, turning the entire family upside down.
Grief took an immediate physical toll on the 36-year-old Nashville actress during those agonizing private months.

Hayden said, “It didn’t matter what I did, what I ate. I know stress and cortisol running through your body can do that. Now I think my body was protecting itself, shielding itself from the world.”

She stated, “When I lost him, I felt like I lost half of my soul. I will always be heartbroken about him, I will never be able to get over it. No matter how many years go by, I will never get over his loss.”
Two years later, in February 2025, she posted a heartfelt message online marking the painful anniversary.
“The pain isn’t quantifiable. I pray you’re in a beautiful place J. That you’re at peace and that when all is said and done, I’ll see you again. Rest easy brother. You are so missed and beyond loved.”
On his 31st birthday, she shared, “I miss him every single day but I know his spirit is always near, watching over and protecting me and my family.”
An ordinary Sunday afternoon in Greenville, South Carolina took an unexpected and tragic turn. An acquaintance placed an urgent 911 call, dispatching emergency medical responders to the scene around 1:50 pm.
Greenville Police Department said, “Officers accompanied by EMS personnel, responded to a report of an unresponsive female at around 1.50 pm Sunday. Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered, however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Officials confirmed the preliminary investigation showed no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.
Her father Skip said, “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her.”
Shock quickly moved through the entertainment community as long-term colleagues shared memories.
Bethany Joy Lenz wrote, “I dont understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter. Hayden, you are surrounded by love.”

Heroes co-star Masi Oka said, “I had the privilege of working closely with her, and I’ll always remember her for her beautiful spirit, immense talent, and the joyful energy she brought to everything she did.”
