We all want to look our best and sometimes, this means having some work done. For many people, having their teeth fixed is a priority, and that is where one grandmother found herself.
Hayley Debra Potter had spent 14 years losing her teeth while she suffered from gum disease. Any teeth that she had remaining in her mouth were yellow, so she decided to have some work done.
At first, she just tried not to smile but that wasn’t in her nature. That is when she decided to travel to Turkey and book an appointment in Antalya. Yes, she wanted to get some ‘Turkey Teeth.’
In the UK, Hayley was quoted about £20,000, which was a little too rich for her blood. Since she went to Turkey, however, she was able to afford it because it was only going to cost her £8,000.
She traveled earlier in October to have the work done and it took about 4 1/2 hours to have her remaining 13 teeth removed. The 57-year-old paid for implants and bridges, with only 10 dental implants being put in now.
After the first work, she had her dentures for six months until the healing was finished. At that point, the bridges and crowns could be put in.
You might think that she had a horrible experience because we have heard about other Turkey Teeth incidents, but she couldn’t be happier. She said that her ‘confidence is through the roof.’
Hayley works as a hospital ward housekeeper during the day and was always insecure. She would never smile showing her teeth.
She said: “I had to mentally prepare myself so I would stay calm and think of the end result.
“I was awake the whole time – but I was ok with that because the surgeon was bloody handsome!
“Afterwards, I got very swollen and bruised – I was unrecognizable.
“But now I feel wonderful. I know it will change my life completely. I’ve never smiled so much in my life.”
Despite the fact that she looked like she had been beaten up in the dentist’s chair, she said that she did look worse than she felt. The first day, she experienced ‘no pain whatsoever’ and was numbed completely.
“I was given painkillers and anti-inflammatories. I was very swollen and bruised but everyone in the hotel was having some kind of cosmetic surgery so I was well supported,” she said.
It will take about six months for the implants to fully heal so she has to wear the dentures during that time. Since she has been home, she has been eating a soft food diet and that will be the case while she heals.
“I did have nerves beforehand but everything went so smoothly, I don’t have a single complaint,” Hayley said.
“I can’t eat tough foods at the minute but I couldn’t anyway because of how bad my teeth were before.
“I feel wonderful. I already know it will change my life completely. Whenever I walk past a mirror I smile – I can’t stop smiling! I’ve never smiled so much in my life.”
