Florida Inmate Gets Pregnant In Solitary Confinement And Gives Birth To ‘Miracle Baby’

When a person is in prison, they are typically watched very carefully. We wouldn’t expect that there would be a large surprise taking place, but one happened recently in Florida.

It occurred when the Florida female inmate gave birth to a baby girl in June. She was in solitary confinement at the time that she supposedly impregnated herself.

A fellow inmate had passed semen through an air conditioning vent to Daisy Link. Both the male inmate who passed it and Daisy are being charged with murder.

According to Daisy, she was in a romantic relationship with Joan Depaz. They had been speaking to each other through air conditioning vents in their jail cells. At the time, the two inmates are staying at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade, Florida. They were both in solitary confinement.

Joan expressed his desire to be a father and they came up with a plan to make it occur. They tied bedsheets together, wrapped his sperm in plastic wr,ap and then transported it through the vents into the cell where Daisy was staying.

He said: “I put the semen in Saran Wrap every day like five times a day for like a month straight.”

She added: “He would kind of roll it up almost like a cigarette and he would attach it to the line that we had in the vent and I would pull it through.

“From there, I had placed it inside of the yeast infection applicators. I had placed it inside of there and then from there I administered it.”

Joan admitted that they had never met face-to-face and he compared it to being like the Virgin Mary. She also talked about how she got his sperm.

Daisy said: “You would knock on [the vent] and you can hear the people from the different floors. You would stand on the toilet and actually to be able to talk to them.

“Being in isolation for so long, you begin to spend hours and hours talking to this person, you know, to the point where it’s almost as if you’re in the same room as them.”

In the end, Daisy was a bit surprised that the technique worked as well as it did. She also said: “I think everything happened for a reason.”

Daisy calls the little girl a ‘miracle baby’ and went on to say “She’s a blessing.”

The head of the reproductive science and society group at University College London’s Institute for Women’s Health confirmed that it was possible to get pregnant in this way. She said: “This is very possible. For decades some women have got pregnant using sperm that is put into their vagina – even using a turkey baster.”

Daisy’s family at first thought that she was the victim of sexual assault and wanted an investigation. They later learned that Joan was the baby’s father.

Crystal Bareto, Daisy’s sister said: “She ended up pregnant under their watch, this should never happen. This is, this is horrifying.”

Daisy gave birth on June 19 to the baby girl. She was already in prison for two years at the time for allegedly murdering her boyfriend.

Daisy is charged with second-degree murder and accused of killing her ex-boyfriend by shooting him. Joan is currently being charged with first-degree murder.

Daisy and Joan have been moved to separate jails but they are still able to see their daughter and talk on the phone. The baby girl was living with her grandmother from her father’s side.

Daisy said: “She could be anything. I think that she’s gonna be something great.”
