Ariana Grande has been the focus of a considerable amount of attention recently. She became a child star on the show Victorious, and we have watched her go through different transformations on a professional level as well as on a personal level.
Recently, Ariana Grande showed up on the red carpet at the BAFTA Film Awards. Many of her fans instantly noticed that the 31-year-old pop star seemed to be carrying around a little less weight than she had in the past.
This was easily seen in pictures where she was signing autographs at the awards. Fans started saying that she was ‘terribly thin’ and even called her looks scary.
Many of the comments were negative or were simply hoping that she was doing okay despite the fact that she was looking very thin. Others looked at the bright side and said it seemed as if she was not as small as she was in the past so she may be getting better.
One of the biggest speculations is the possibility that the singer may be dealing with some type of eating disorder. They were looking at the possibility that she was dealing with anorexia and hoped that she could get help before she got sick.
According to a behavioral and relationship expert, Dr. Patrick Wanis said that much commentary on the singer is driven by an issue known as para-social relationships. This is an emotional attachment that is one-sided and fans develop toward a celebrity, even though the celebrity does not think about their existence.
He said: “Ariana Grande became famous as a Nickelodeon child star around age 17. The public has grown up with her and sees her through the lens of nostalgia, purity, and a fixed image of youth.
“Accordingly, any physical change—weight loss, weight gain, or aging—is magnified because people expect her to remain the same forever. Her fans identify with her youth.”
It’s not unusual for celebrities, especially female celebrities, to be put under pressure to meet body standards that are unrealistic. This can lead to unhealthy weight loss and eating problems.
The public looks to female celebrities to have an amazing balance by being the perfect shape and size. It’s a lot of pressure put on someone, along with a ‘toxic mix of nostalgia, beauty standards, and social media culture’ which puts a lot of pressure on those stars to remain frozen in time.
