The Golden Globes is a celebrated event where hundreds of celebrities gather together in order to receive awards and to express appreciation for others who receive them. Sometimes, things can get a little weird.
Recently, Kathy Bates was at the Golden Globe Awards and fans were unable to decipher exactly what was going through her mind. It happened when she did something after not winning an award and many people disapprove of her gesture.
A number of TV series have been blessed to have Kathy Bates playing a part in them. This includes Two And A Half Men, Harry’s Law, and American Horror Story. In the TV series Matlock, however, she portrays Madeline “Matty” Matlock and she received a Golden Globe Awards nomination in 2025.

She plays a retired lawyer who goes back to practicing law at a New York law firm in the television show. She was nominated for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series – Drama but did not win the award. It went to Anna Sawai for her performance in Shogun.
All of the nominees were in the frame when they were preparing to announce the winner. The intent was to capture the reaction of the person who won, but it also captured the reactions of those who did not win.
After the winner was announced, Bates was seen ripping up her acceptance speech. You can see the mischief in her eyes and it was logical that she would do so because it was no longer necessary.
Something else that the video showed is that Bates was clapping for Sawai, but most people tended to overlook that fact. They seemed oblivious to it and started asking why she did it.
Some were critical, saying that she was bitter, or even one commenter said she was a ‘Weirdo.’ Obviously, not everybody is happy with what she did.
There were others, however, who saw the fact that she did something funny by tearing up the acceptance speech. She is a comedian, after all, which is why some people were calling it a legendary move.
In the end, Kathy Bates may not have won the award but it was her eighth nomination for a Golden Globe. She is a wonderful actress and we look forward to anything that she may work on in the future.
