Elvis Sings A Memorable “Auld Lang Syne” On His Final New Years Eve

Christmas may mean different things for different people but for many of us, it is all about the music. Sometime around Thanksgiving and lasting until the end of the year, we hear Christmas songs playing everywhere.

More than likely, you have a favorite Christmas song but for many, an Elvis Pressley song is near the top of the list. He has performed many Christmas classics over the years and they are still played today.

Ellis Presley was also known for singing songs to celebrate another holiday, New Year’s Eve. In 1976, he was on tour and he decided to spend some time with his fans to share in the celebration.

The performance he delivered on New Year’s Eve at the Civic Center Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was a special one. Later, it would even be turned into an album because it was recorded at the time.

As the clock struck midnight, Elvis began singing and the crowd sang along. They sang the classic New Year’s song, ‘Auld Lang Syne’.

Auld Lang Syne was written by a Scottish poet in 1778. Originally, it was set to the tune of a different folksong but it is still sung today as a way to say goodbye to the old year and to welcome the new.

It’s nice that they were able to capture the footage of Elvis singing during the concert in 1976. As it turns out, it was the final New Year’s Eve that Elvis was able to celebrate.
