When you are a parent, you must be prepared for the changes that come as time moves on. This seems to be especially true for parents who are celebrities, as they don’t only have to deal with changes in the family, they have to deal with the publicity that goes along with it.
One of the things that seems to happen on a frequent basis in recent years is for one of the children of a celebrity to come out as part of the LGBTQ movement. One of the latest to do so is the child of Eddie Murphy and Mel B.
Their daughter, 18-year-old Angel had recently celebrated his 15th birthday. He also came out as transgender.
Eddie Murphy and Mel B, who was one of the Spice Girls alumni had an affair back in 2006. A year later, Angel was born and now, he has turned 18 years old. After coming out as transgender, the couple was showing their support for their son.
Mel B, who recently turned 50 has two daughters, Madison, 13 and 26-year-old Phoenix. Eddie Murphy is the father of 10 children, with his oldest, Eric being 35.
Angel turned 18 in April and people noticed that his Instagram had changed in the past few months. He began to use the pronoun ‘him’ and it seems as if his celebrity parents are supporting him in his transition.
According to an insider: “It’s a decision Angel made and Mel has been understanding, likewise Eddie. There was no big event to mark it. Angel just wanted it to be known what pronouns are now suitable.”
Mel B also went on Instagram in April to mark the birthday of her son, writing: “HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY ANGEL !!! I cannot believe youre 18 You are so special and so bright and so talented!! I couldnt be prouder of watching you grow and become the person you are but youll forever be my babyyyy I hop you keep chasing yor dreams and be kind to everyone around you like you always have been my Angel [sic].”
A number of other celebrity parents have children who came out as trans recently. This includes Robert De Niro’s daughter, who came out at the age of 29.
