If there is one thing that people enjoy doing these days, it’s commenting on something that happened in our history. I’ll be the first one to admit that not everything that took place in the world is going to be all flowery and nice. In fact, most of the things that we hear about actually have some roots in something that we are not necessarily proud of and it may even be that it is something ridiculously against the grain. That is especially true when you look at some of the old television shows and movies that seem to be on the edge when it came to racist content.
Of course, those movies have always been a part of our lives in many of us grew up watching them without necessarily being affected by what we were seeing on the screen. We may not have even thought anything about it, but people today seem to be very sensitive on the matter and many of the big corporations are willing to bow to that public pressure. Apparently, this also includes Disney+, because they are removing a few movies from the kids’ section of their streaming service. They’re doing it because of some content that was included in the movies that people were complaining about.
One of the movies that were removed was Dumbo and another was Peter Pan. In either case, it was due to racist content. For example, in Dumbo, the crows performed a musical number that was similar to a minstrel show. In Peter Pan, they displayed Native Americans in a way that was not proper.
Of course, everybody is going to have their own opinion but in the end, the movies belong to Disney and it is their choice what they want to do with them. Then again, we are the ones that pay the Disney fee every month, so we have a say in the matter as well. Watch this video for more information:
