Dawn French Talks About Her Ex-Husband and ‘Best Friend’ Lenny Henry and Her New Love

Comedian Dawn French, 64, is a beloved figure who’s graced our screens for years. Her most well-known role was in the wildly popular BBC sitcom The Vicar of Dibley.

Given her success over the decades, Dawn’s earned a large and passionate fanbase who want to know everything about her, including the behind-the-scenes aspects of her private life.

Dawn’s expansive career on stage and the small screen started to flourish after she attended the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. There, she met Jennifer Saunders, who would soon become her partner in a very successful stage comedy act.

And Jennifer wasn’t the only famous figure Dawn’s worked alongside. She was also married to fellow comic/actor Lenny Henry. The two married in 1984 and divorced in 2010.

Dawn and Lenny were seen as one of Brittian’s pop-culture power couples, and Dawn has since been very open about her difficulties struggling with their split.

During an interview with the Mirror in 2017, Dawn expressed feeling “broken” seven years after her divorce.

She said:

Despite the pain caused by their divorce, she says that Lenny and her remain the best of friends.

Dawn continued:

In 2013, Dawn married again to Mark Bignell, a charity executive she met through an arranged date set up by her mum.

According to the star, she was sent a “sign from the grave” from her father. He told her that Mark was indeed the right man for her.

Dawn described her initial meeting with Mark, saying that in her head, she was thinking, “I’m not really that interested.”

But then something changes.
