Almost 23,000 Cars Recalled By Kia After One Worker May Have Forgotten To Bolt Down Seats

Cars may sometimes be recalled for a variety of reasons but there are also instances when a simple mistake leads to a very costly recall. It seems as if that is what has happened to Kia.

More than 22,000 Kia’s have been recalled after one worker was found to have made a mistake. The EV9 models, which have been recalled were released to the United States in October 2023 and were supposed to hit the UK markets this month.

It isn’t uncommon for cars to be recalled but Kia is recalling the EV9s for an unusual reason. The cars were built between September 25, 2023, and October 15, 2024, at the Gwangmyeong, South Korea, plant.

The issue seems to be a single worker who may not have been properly restraining the seats. The EV9’s seats were ‘without mounting bolts’ meaning that it was not properly restraining the passenger and was more likely to injure them.

The documentation said: “Due to an error by a plant assembly worker, the second and/or third row seat mounting bolts may be missing.”

A letter is going out by January 24, 2025 to alert EV9 owners of the possible issue. If you have an affected car, ‘dealers will inspect and install mounting bolts as necessary free of charge’.

That’s mighty nice of them.
