Having a child is undoubtedly one of the happiest days in our life. It’s also a moment that comes with a lot of anticipation, and that is doubly true when we are having twins.
Twins are relatively rare, so not very many mothers have known the joy of having two children at the same time. That is especially true for the mother we have in the story below, who had twins who both had beautiful white hair.
Argentinians Jorge Gomez and his wife were thrilled about the possibility of having two girls. The birth took place in 2018 and immediately upon discovering they were pregnant, they were making plans for the family to be together.
Included among the many things they did in order to protect the safety and health of their children, they visited their doctor. One visit, however, stood out from the rest because they realized that they were having twin girls rather than just a single baby.
This really came with a challenge, and Mrs. Gomez was up for it. Although there was risk involved, she had a normal pregnancy and childbirth. When the day finally came, she was ready for welcoming them to the world.
The twins were healthy but there was also something that really stood out. They were born a few weeks early but their weight was healthy and they were fighters. Catalina was 5.95 pounds and Virginia was 5.5 pounds.
When they looked at the two girls, they realized that they had a very special bond. It wasn’t just the fact that they were identical twins, it’s the fact that they had white hair, unlike their parents who both had dark hair.
It wasn’t just their hair that was white but rather, they were born with albinism. This genetic disorder causes a lack of pigmentation, so their hair would be white and stay white for the rest of their lives. There may be some struggles along the way, but albinos can live a long and happy life.
In speaking with the local newspaper, Jorge said: “When they gave us the news that we would have two babies, it gave us a lot of happiness and when they were born and we saw that they were albinos, that happiness did not change at all. For us it is a blessing.”
Interestingly, this is the first time that albino twins were born in Argentina. Everyone was surprised that they had such a rare disorder, but the parents were looking forward to raising them. They said that all they saw was happiness when they looked at them.
There were some safety issues associated with their albinism, including a sensitivity to sunlight. They would have to wear a lot of sun protection and be cautious not to be out at the wrong time of day.
Now that the girls are four years old, they are growing up nicely and they recently posed for some pictures. The story that they had and the pictures that they showed will help to introduce many to albinism and help to make it better known.
