When you think about Sonny and Cher, what song comes to your mind? Although they may have performed many songs together throughout the years that they were together, ‘I Got You Babe’ is the one that sticks out for most of us. The song was written by Sonny late at night one night and he was so impressed with it, he woke up Cher to sing it with her. She didn’t feel overly optimistic about the song but it managed to stay at the top of the charts for three weeks! Overall, it sold over 1 million copies.
Cher started her career with Sonny Bono in the 1960s and they were a well-known team, that went by the name, Sonny and Cher. During their time together, they released a lot of singles but when they separated, she continued to perform and even started acting successfully in the 1980s. Recently, the 71-year-old star was honored at the 41st annual Kennedy Center Honors. She was touched by the gesture.
In order to pay tribute to Cher, Cyndi Lauper and Adam Lambert performed a cover of the song, I Got You Babe. Cyndi Lauper is 65-years-old herself and is well known as an actress, singer and songwriter. Adam Lambert comes in a lot younger at 37 years old and he is known as a songwriter and actor along with his singing abilities.
Lambert got his start with American Idol and he was the runner-up in the eighth season. His first album was produced in 2009 and he is known for his performances, which often match the quality of his music or perhaps even surpass it.
The audience couldn’t help but sing along as Adam and Cyndi performed. Even Cher was noticeably touched by the surprise.
The audience burst into applause and cheers when the song was over. Cher also showed her appreciation and approval by standing and pointing. There is no doubt that they had a lot of fun singing the song together but it was, in the end, a great honor for Cher.
