Although there may be differences from one child to another, there is something that most of them appreciate. I’m talking about playing with toys and if you have a child in your life, you realize what a priority it is for them to have toys they can identify with. In some cases, we may buy them a toy that fits in well with our own personality but it doesn’t quite match with theirs. On the other hand, there are certain toys that are going to be played with by the child but the parents are the ones that get the biggest thrill out of them.
That is what a woman named Betty Stachan is trying to do. As a mother, she realizes that not everything goes perfectly in her life. It’s not all about playing with all the right toys and living life with a big smile on your face. Of course, children need to be in that fantasy land for themselves from time to time but there’s nothing like throwing a dose of reality in their direction as well. That is what Betty has done, however, because she is now creating Barbie dolls that look and act more like a regular woman rather than the stereotypical role that Barbie plays.
One of the Barbies that she created was one that was less glamorous than what we may be familiar with from our youth. It is a Barbie that has the tired eyes of a new mother. It looks as if she has done her part in looking as beautiful as she can but she also has other priorities. After all, she’s breastfeeding a little baby.
When Betty owns a Barbie doll, she does more than just flip it around and pass on that stereotype. She re-styles the Barbie, repaints it, and makes it look more like a real person. Specifically, she wanted to do her part in making the Barbie more like a young mother, and she has a realistic touch to do it. I don’t know if these Barbies are going to catch on but let me just tell you, there is something oddly interesting about what she has done with them.
