One of the biggest moments that we will have in life is when we give birth to a child. The entire pregnancy, from beginning to end, is life-changing, to say the least.
One couple who experienced this for themselves is Oksana and Sergey. Despite the fact that they didn’t want to have a big family, and were attempting to have two children, they ended up with quite a surprise.
When Oksana was very early on in her second pregnancy, she felt that there may be additional children in her belly. She knew that something was different, but nobody in their family had ever been pregnant with twins.
As it turns out, there were more surprises yet to come and it appeared at a doctor’s visit. The doctor began to frown and he said that: “I can see five fetuses, maybe six. It’s hard to tell.”
In the end, Oksana was expecting five babies. This is a very rare occurrence, with about one in 47,458,321 pregnancies involving quintuplets. It was also something that nobody at the hospital had ever seen.
You would think that a parent would be happy with this but it was actually quite stressful. She said: “It almost felt like a nightmare, as though I would wake up at any moment.”
They knew that their plans for the future had changed and they were wondering how they would care for so many children.
The big day happened when she was in her 30th week and they went to the hospital. Eight doctors were waiting in the delivery room and she said they treated her like she was made of porcelain.
The doctors knew that this pregnancy carries a lot of risk but in the end, she had five healthy and happy babies who are now three years old.
This was also a historic birth because it was the first time quintuplets were born in the Ukraine.
