’90s Star Quit Acting Because She Was ‘Too Ugly’

We often look at Hollywood stars and admire their beauty. At times, however, they didn’t get quite the start that you would expect.

In 1991, a young actress was involved in the film, “My Girl” but people were critical about her appearance. They said that she was ‘too ugly’ and she decided to leave Hollywood. Looking at her today, you can’t help but notice how beautiful she is.

Despite the fact that she left Hollywood because of her appearance at a young age, she continued acting for more than three decades. She got her major breakthrough by playing in My Girl and the sequel, My Girl 2. She then paused her career from 1999 until 2005 to go to college.

She spoke about her youth in Hollywood, saying: “We know so much more about what it is to be a child who is put into performing. As a kid, you’re just along for the ride, but it can be extremely damaging.

“Throughout my adolescence, I was not getting booked, I was told I was too fat or too ugly.”

They wanted to help her so they would send her to a dermatologist every week to see if they could work with her acne. This only proved to make things more difficult for her in the long run. She said that it was overwhelming dealing with breakouts for almost 5 years, and there was a lot of pressure coming her way.

Since she did not have a lot of acting opportunities at the time, she decided to become an educator. She attended the University of Chicago and took an even longer break of 10 years.

She worked at Zagat as a fact-checker and later, for HarperCollins as an editorial assistant. Through it all, she continued to have thoughts about acting. She said: “I was seeing a lot of Broadway, and I was inspired again.”

She then said that she would give it a year but she knew that she would be all in for the rest of her life.
