9-Year-Old Girl Holds A Bake Sale To Pay For Her Dad’s Funeral

Life has a way of throwing things at us that can really make it difficult to continue going. At times, we are shielded from much of the issues that life has to offer at a young age but at other times, we have to deal with them, regardless of our age. Unfortunately, a nine-year-old girl from Kentucky has to deal with the most serious of issues after her father, 35-year-old Jason Barton was killed in a car crash. It caused hardship for the family in so many different ways.

Since the father didn’t have insurance and not much savings, the family was going to struggle in many ways. One of the ways in which they had a struggle was to get the money together to pay for a memorial service. The pandemic had made it a very difficult year for them and after they lost Barton, it became unspeakably worse. A GoFundMe account was set up for the family, and it certainly is going to help but it is only scratching the surface of what they will ultimately need. That is when the nine-year-old daughter, Kaylei came up with an idea that would not only raise money for the memorial, it would honor her father in a special way.

Kaylei loves baking so she decided to go to her local Dairy Queen and hold a bake sale. As she stood outside of the restaurant with a table full of red velvet cake with sprinkles, a line of cars formed. Eventually, she was able to sell enough to pay for the memorial and more. One couple even gave her $1000 to help the family in exchange for two chocolate chip cookies.

Not only was Kaylei touched by the experience, her family was uplifted by what the community did for them. Although they will undoubtedly have a long road ahead of them, it was a moment that allowed them to see that all was not lost after all.
