There are many difficulties that we may face in life but when we have to deal with cancer, it is certainly a life-changing event. It doesn’t matter if we are affected by it directly or if it is one of our loved ones, it is something that is going to have an impact on us and the entire family. It is a very sad situation, regardless of who has cancer but when it is a young child, it just seems to be even more serious. That is why we can’t help but be empathetic for this nine-year-old boy from Oklahoma who had to deal with a very adult situation.
When Stephen Cotter was only six years old, he was diagnosed with a very serious type of cancer. It happened in 2016 and from that point forward, his life involved hospitals, going to the doctors and chemotherapy. Three years later, the little boy was for having his last chemotherapy treatment and Stephen now is at home, looking at all of the pills that he took during his treatments. It was an absolutely unbelievable moment and the number of pill bottles that was on the table is beyond belief. I couldn’t imagine anybody having to go through this but a little child is just too much.
Although he had to deal with a very difficult situation, his mother said that he always did it with a smile on his face and he held his head high. That didn’t stop him, however, from breaking down in tears when his chemotherapy treatments were finally over. You get to see it in a video but nothing could really make you feel exactly what the family was feeling at that time.
This is one of the most heartwarming moments that we have seen in a very long time. It just shows that nobody is completely able to avoid problems in our life but when we face them head on, then we can be successful in doing so.
