One popular type of television show is associated with unsolved mysteries. It can be found on many different networks, including the Netflix show, ‘Unsolved Mysteries’.
One of the cases that was shown on Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries was a disappearance that took place just after Thanksgiving in 2017. 7-year-old Abdul Aziz Khan was at home in Atlanta, Georgia, when he vanished.
Abdul had been missing for seven years and they put him on the Unsolved Mysteries show. On February 23 this year, Abdul was found alive and he is now 14 years old.
There was a house for sale in Highlands Ranch in Denver, Colorado. The homeowner contacted authorities after a potential break-in. Two Douglas County deputies responded and showed up at the scene.
When the deputies arrived at the house, they found ‘two kids in the driveway’. They were able to make contact with the kids and ‘ask them what was going on.’
According to the reports, one of the children explained that ‘his parents were with the realtor or something like that’.
Another source added: “The kid called inside to mom with a cell phone, and the two adults came out.”
Deputies began to talk to the adults but they felt as if they were being lied to. They thought that ‘these people were not being straight with them, not only about why they were there but who they were’.
According to the woman, she never had an identification card. When the deputies checked her fingerprints, they realized that she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest for kidnapping.
They were able to identify the two adults as Elliot Blake Bourgeois and Rabia Khalid. They further then realized that the child who spoke to the deputies was later identified as the missing child. In this case, Rabia is his non-custodial mom.
A source continued: “[The pair] were subsequently arrested for kidnapping, fraud and then just a myriad of other charges – fraud, identity theft, providing false information to authorities and trespassing, as well.”
The sheriff said that the child was ‘healthy’ and they did not have any concerns about how he was being raised. They then thought about the ‘reunification process’ between Abdul, who was now a teenager and his father, Dr Abdul Kahn they realized that it was going to ‘take some time’.
In the end, Sheriff Weekly said “There’s just an immense sense of pride that we were able to bring this seven-year-long mystery to a close and to start the process of reunification with Aziz and his dad, though that is going to be a process – they’re not together; that’s going to be slow.”
The boy’s family also released a statement, saying: “We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found. We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years. We specifically want to recognize the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional work in solving this case.
“Now, as we navigate the next steps, we ask for privacy so that we can move forward as a family and heal together.”
