Losing anyone in death is a very difficult thing but at times, somebody may lose their life and it affects people around the world. That is the case with actress Barbie Hsu, who recently passed away at the age of 48.
Barbie Hsu was a Taiwanese actress who became famous for playing Shan Cai in the 2001 hit series ‘Meteor Garden.’ Her family recently shared details about her death, which occurred suddenly due to influenza-related pneumonia.
On February 2, rumors about her death began to circulate online. When her ex-husband, Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei made his social media profile picture black, the rumors began to circulate even more.
Eventually, Dee Hsu, Barbie’s younger sister confirmed that she had passed away. In a statement to TVBS News, a Taiwanese broadcaster, she said: “Thank you all for your concern! During the New Year holiday, our whole family travelled to Japan. My dearest and kindest sister, Xiyuan, unfortunately passed away due to flu-related pneumonia.
“I am grateful to have been her sister in this lifetime, to have cared for each other and accompanied each other. I will always be thankful for her and miss her forever. Shan~ Rest in peace! Love you always—Together, remember forever.”
Many people came online to post tributes and to send their condolences to the family.
This included PETA Asia, who shared a message to honor her dedication to animal rights. They said that she was one of the ‘first and biggest stars’ who supported them and educated millions about the cruelty of the fur industry.
Another tribute came from Jerry Yan, a costar from Meteor Garden. He shared the message: “Thank you for the chance to meet you. In your carefree, childlike years, you often said, ‘Live each day as if it were the last, and enjoy it to the fullest.’ This time, may you take your time and walk slowly. From now on, in another world, may there be no worries—only peace and tranquility.”
Barbie was married twice. She had two children with her first husband before they got divorced. She then married a South Korean singer, Koo Jun Yeob and they continued to be married until she passed.
May she rest in peace.
