When you watch movies these days, you are often mostly drawn in by the fancy camera work and special effects. In previous decades, however, the focus was all on the actors.
Those actors had to be on the top of their game and in many cases, their looks made a significant difference in their popularity. It was something that was acceptable at the time and we get to look back on those days in an interesting way.
