3 Teens Arrested And Face Felony Charges For Spitting In Food Served To Police Officers

In Florida, three teens were fired from their job and arrested on felony charges after allegedly spitting in the food they prepared for two on-duty sheriff’s deputies on April 27.

The two Okeechobee County Sheriff’s deputies were in uniform when they stopped at the Highway 55 restaurant for dinner. However, soon, an anonymous person told the owner about the food contamination incident.

The owner immediately a look at the surveillance video and confirmed that three employees had indeed conspired to spit in the officers’ food.

“There is no excuse for actions such as this and will not be tolerated,” said Okeechobee Sheriff Noel E. Stephen in a statement.

The three juvenile ex-employees, two of which are 17 years old and one who is 16, are all high school students.

They are being charged with Florida’s anti-tampering act and battery on a law enforcement officer.

The owner quickly fired the workers after watching the video and contacted local police.

“All three were immediately fired and the Okeechobee City Police Department was contacted. The owners of the establishment were quite upset and have been cooperating to the fullest extent in this matter,” the Sheriff’s office said.

The Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office also released a video of the April 27 incident, the same video reported to the owner by an anonymous source.

Detectives reviewed the video and interviewed all three teens, Molly Spearow, 16, Logan Pope, 17, and Alex Armstrong, 17.

“(They) were each charged with Florida Anti-Tampering Act- Food, a 1st Degree Felony, and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO), a 3rd Degree Felony. All were transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice,” the release said.

The two deputies were also notified. So far, authorities said that the officers had not sought medical treatment, according to the statement released by the Sheriff’s office on Thursday.

The stupidity of these teens just can’t be understated. We all know that teens don’t think about consequences, and I personally am under no illusion that punishing these teens will “deter” other teenagers from committing similar acts.

That said, punishing these kids should not about deterrence; it should be about justice. And these teens deserve what’s coming to them. It’s a shame their thoughtless behavior may ruin the rest of their lives, but that’s what happens when you play stupid games. You win stupid prizes.
