Social media is full of influencers and they each have their own way of influencing others. Efecan Kultur is one of those well-known personalities from Turkey who is famous for mukbang videos.
Efecan Kultur gained a following of some 155,000 fans on social media but he has passed away at the age of 24. The cause of death was various complications, mainly associated with obesity.
As a mukbang streamer, he would often consume a large amount of food, and it would be live-streamed so viewers were watching in real-time. It is a genre that got started in South Korea but became popular in most parts of the world.
As a result of his extreme eating habits, his videos would get millions of views but it took a toll on his health. This included becoming bedridden by December 2024, due to obesity-related complications.
Some of the issues he was facing included excessive bruising, mobility problems, and problems with his breathing. He was unable to stand and even though he was discharged from the hospital to continue treatment at home, he continued in critical condition.
At one point, his weight became debilitating enough that he could not visit his mother’s grave when she passed away last year.
In the final months of his life, Kultur’s social media presence had taken quite a shift. He was even seen eating a large plate of canned grape leaves in October 2024. This was when he announced that he was reducing his salt intake and going on a diet.
After that video, his postings became less frequent with his final upload on YouTube appearing eight months before he died.

In the last TikTok he posted before his death, he shared a photo with his caretakers. This included his late mother and he captioned it ‘Family Worship.’
Another popular Turkish streamer visited him a month before he died. he interviewed him, and at that time he was still lying in bed. He talked about his health struggles.
This isn’t the first content creator to have serious issues as a result of his or her mukbang content, which can lead to excessive eating. The trend has grown in popularity and has become increasingly extreme, with influencers sometimes eating dangerously large portions of food.
This included a Chinese lifestreamer, Pan Xiaoting, who went on a 10-hour binge session and died due to a suspected stomach rupture. Her stomach had become deformed and filled with undigested food.
In 2023, American TikToker Taylor Brice LeJeune, known as Waffler69 died from a suspected heart attack at 33. He was known for his odd food reviews, in which he would eat expired products and canned cheeseburgers or other strange foods.
Another influencer who died was Brittany Sauer, who died at 28. She expressed her regret for binge eating in her final videos, saying that it ruined her life. She died from type II diabetes complications.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Kultur. May he rest in peace.
