There’s no question that Tom Hanks is an actor at the very top of the Hollywood food chain. Not only for his amazing roles spanning decades with numerous hit films, but because of his universally-loved likable personality. Tom Hanks is beyond a doubt, a solid guy.
So, if you assumed that Hanks is just as candid and warm in his marriage as he is on film, we’ll you’d be correct. In fact, he’s been with his wife and fellow actor Rita Wilson for over three decades after falling in love on the set of the 1985 comedy Volunteers and getting married in 1988. But when asked on the red carpet about his incredible 30-year-long marriage, Hanks described it as simply “untouchable.”

“When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of a, ‘Hey, this is the place!’ I felt that anyway,” Hanks tells Entertainment Tonight. “I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons.”

Further elaborating on those right reasons, he said, “We just like each other. You start there.”

“Life is one thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it,” he says.
When asked about their healthy marriage by US Weekly, he added:
“We got married, we committed to each other, we love each other and we work hard at our relationship… Not only do we love each other, we really like each other, and we like being together, and we support each other and we keep the communication channels open. That’s always important.”
Wilson also opened up about her life with Tom Hanks. She said that they are always there to support each other through good times and bad because that’s what a marriage is all about. Wilson revealed that their “support” for one another also includes the occasional foot rub.
“He always gives me back and foot rubs. He’s just cool,” Wilson says adorably to PEOPLE.
One of the “hard times” the couple faced during their marriage was when Wilson was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Thankfully, they caught it early, and she was able to undergo treatment. Of course, her husband was there for her every step of the way.
It seems that Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson got married and stayed married for all the right reasons. And throughout it all, they remained best friends. This is one “Hollywood” marriage we can all learn from!
