Son Dedicates Touching Video Tribute To Dad With Alzheimer’s Set To Kenny Chesney’s ‘While He Still Knows Who I Am’

A son whose father is living with Alzheimer’s disease recently made a powerful and emotional video tribute to his dad. The video, set to the song “While He Still Knows Who I Am” by Kenny Chesney, highlights the pain and fear people have of no longer being recognized by their loved ones who are suffering from Alzheimer’s.

“I only knew him as my father,
I’m gonna get to know the man
I’m going back to see him
While he still knows
Who I am

This time I’m gonna kiss him
Instead of just shaking hands
Gonna tell him that I love him
While he still knows
Who I am”

The video begins as the son writes about when their family’s journey with Alzheimer’s began.

“In November 2011, my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. That day forward, I determined he’d never forget me…or I him.”

As the son is driving back to see his father, he drives along country roads, over bridges, all while singing along to Chesney’s song. There are a few emotional shots of him behind the wheel as he wipes away tears from his eyes with the music playing in the background.

The video also shows scenes of him with his mom and dad smiling and spending quality time together. There are a few sweet shots of his parents kissing on the beech and of him holding hands with his dad while walking on the beech. All priceless, memories that the family is sure to cherish forever.

The son says on the YouTube page that this video is “a tribute to all who are living with and dealing with Alzheimer’s disease.”

It’s difficult to watch families dealing with this terrible disease, but it’s so beautiful to see a son who was able to make the most out of the precious time he had left with his father.
