What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of a superhero? Most of us think about the movies that we see and the special powers that those heroes may have. Some of them can fly, some can see through solid objects and others may be able to do something extraordinary all on their own. When it comes to actor Robert Downey Junior, however, you probably think about Iron Man. He plays the part of the very popular superhero but it seems as if he also has a power that is above and beyond what is seen in the movies.
Robert Downey Junior is not only a man who loves playing superheroes, he is also somebody that loves our planet. He decided to come up with a rescue plan, not to save a city or someone in distress but to save the entire earth. In order to accomplish it, he will use a tool that is straight out of science fiction and he plans on cleaning up the earth in just about a decade.
Robert Downey Junior plays the part of Tony Stark, a mastermind who wants to save the world through his advanced technology. He is also following that example in real life and is launching an organization in 2020 called the Footprint Coalition. It plans on using artificial intelligence to clean the planet in 10 years.
He made the announcement when he was giving a speech at the Amazon RE: Mars Conference. Mars stands for machine learning, automation, robotics and space. He didn’t come out with many details about the upcoming project but it seems as if he is going to use artificial intelligence for a very positive outcome.
“Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” the actor stated to the audience. He also took some time to reveal his admiration for the scientists and researchers that provided him with the high-level intelligence behind the project “God, I love experts,” he said in a very Tony Stark-like fashion. “They’re like Wikipedia with character defects.”
He even had something extra to say: “I have this quiet sense of crisis,” he confessed, explaining that he has also been a contributor to the problem. “I’m a one-man carbon footprint nightmare colossus.”
