As we move about through life, you never really know what is going to happen from one day to the next. It seems as if you have everything planned out and your life is stretching out in front of you when suddenly, it takes a sharp turn out of the blue. It is not always something bad that happens that makes the change in life but when it does happen, there’s not much you can do to stop it. That was what happened with this couple and in the end, it turned out to be a rather fateful day.
TunDe Hector found herself in a rather unusual situation. She had five dollars in her pocket and was heading to the gas station after running out of gas. Chris Wright spotted her and turned around to pick her up. He then bought her gas can and handed her the money that he had in his wallet. When they parted ways on a particular day, they didn’t think they would ever meet again but they did.
Three years later, his parents thought they would move across the country to be closer to him. It wasn’t long after the move that his mother started feeling ill and had complications from Parkinson’s disease.
His mother’s condition continued to worsen so he brought in a hospice nurse to help her be more comfortable. At the last minute, the nursing aide canceled and TunDe Hector showed up for the job. She was also a nursing aide. When she came into the home, she brought peace along with her.
“She cared for her in the most respectful way. She had the utmost respect for human life,” Mrs. Wright said.
They had forgotten that they knew each other, even though they had met three years before. She told the story about the stranger’s kindness often and finally, it came up when talking to the family. When he heard the story, he was shocked and simply said: “That was me.”
Nobody could have believed that a chance encounter ended up coming full circle.
Over the next few days, they learned that Hector had dreamed of becoming a nurse but she was having a problem affording the schooling. After seeing all she had done for their mother, they decided to make her dream come true.
His mother passed away two weeks later and TunDe just happened to be off that day.when she heard what happened, she came over right away to be with the family.
The Wright’s started YouCaring page and asked friends and family to donate to her schooling. It only took a week and they raised $30,000 to pay for her nursing school.
At this point, they called her to the house and she came over right away. She had no idea that they were about to make her dreams come true.
