Something is inspiring about hearing from married couples who’ve spent decades together through good times and bad. One such pair is Willie and D.W Williams from North Carolina, who recently was blessed to celebrate years of joy, love, and happiness on their 82nd wedding anniversary. DW is 103-years-old, and his wife Willie is 100. There are one of the few Centenarian married couples in the world. The couple also celebrated their birthdays, which are only one week apart as well as over eight decades of marriage. The triple milestone event was honored with a big party at First Mayfield Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, according to WSOC TV.
Their granddaughter, Williams-Greene, told the station, ” “to see them at this age and still doing well; it’s just a blessing to have them here.” She added that they are each other’s “best friend.” The couple reminisced that when they first met, cab rides were only 10 cents. While there have been a lot of changes over their 80 years of marriage, one thing that has stood the test of time is their love for one another. Their marriage has survived events like the Great Depression, WWII, the Korean War, The Vietnam War, the Civil Rights era, and 9/11.

The couple says they are incredibly lucky to have had each other through those challenging times. When asked about the secret to their long marriage, they had just a straightforward piece of advice, “Just be kind to each other.”
When their daughter and granddaughter decided to throw the couple a party, the local media quickly heard about it. Their relatives were all there and decorated the venue with balloons and beautiful table clothes. Williams-Greene says that her grandparents are an inspirational role model for those looking to have healthy and loving relationships.

She said their marriage worked because of “communication and loving each other and working together.”
Public figures and community members were all their and took their incredible story to heart. They have gotten many congratulations, and multiple outlets reported positive comments after news of their achievement.
When they got married, Willie was only 18, and DW was around 21. They spent most of their lives together, and through it all they’ve been by each other’s side. Just imagine all of the experiences they’ve shared together!

When they were asked what they would do with another 100 years of marriage, DW dryly replied, “I don’t know, sit around the house.”
