We may have different things come to our mind when we think about Ashton Kutcher. Many of us think about his MTV show or perhaps the times that he was on the other television shows and in the movies. He often seems like a rather lighthearted individual who likes playing practical jokes on other celebrities in some rather interesting situations. You might even remember that he was married to Demi Moore, a relationship that certainly was in the news.
Although Kutcher has been around for quite some time and is one of the more popular actors out there, it is not only his acting that keeps him busy. He is also been heavily involved in a nonprofit organization since 2009. The organization is his, and it’s known as Thorn, a company that is doing its part to stop child sex trafficking. We may not have heard of it before, but it is having an impact.
Kutcher and his ex-wife, Demi Moore founded the organization when they were married. It continues to be an important part of fighting one of the evilest things in the world around us.
Thorn is nonprofit and it brings some of the greatest minds together in the world, including law enforcement, government and high-tech resources to crack down on illegal sex trafficking. The organization continues to have an effect that grows year upon year but this year brought about some significant changes.
Kutcher promotes his acting on the interview circuit but he also promotes the nonprofit in any way that he can. That was seen when he gave this interview on the Today show with Lee and Hoda Kotb.
When the interview started, they were asking him some fairly straightforward questions about his television show. When they got beyond the basic questions, they started digging a little bit deeper by asking him, “What’s not going well in your life right now?” They went on to ask “?What can we pray for you about”
He thought about it for a moment and then he asked them to pray about the success of the Thorn organization, and then he goes on to describe the details.
Through the efforts of that organization, more than 6000 victims of human trafficking were identified.
There was one significant factor in common among all of them, the commerce associated with the trafficking was all done online.
The team develops tools to help law enforcement officials find missing children and to disrupt what is taking place in the sex trafficking trade. He pledges that he will maintain his steadfast resistance to that problem and even though most people don’t recognize he was involved in it, he has even stood in front of Congress to talk about it.
When you consider the fact that sex trafficking is a big problem worldwide, you realize how important this cause is.
The International Labor Organization estimates that 21 million people worldwide are engaged in forced labor. Approximately 4.5 million of that number are involved in sex work. Since these practices take place behind closed doors, the crimes are difficult to track and prosecute. Organizations like this one, however, help to fight against what is taking place.
