Did you ever notice how there are certain singers that just seem to be able to do any song perfectly? It doesn’t matter what they happen to be singing, it could be their original song or a song that is a big hit by someone else and when you hear them do it, it’s as if they own it. That is the case with Andrea Bocelli. He has a spectacular voice, but what you may not know is that his son, Matteo, is also making his way into people’s hearts because of his fantastic voice.
Some people will compare Matteo’s voice to his father, even though it does seem like a younger version. When you hear them singing side-by-side with each other, you will know that they certainly are related. It is more than just the fact that they were able to sing beautifully, they even look like each other in many ways as well. Both of them are trained as classical singers but you might also consider them to be a classical crossover as well.
Over the course of his career, Andrea has sung with many amazing artists in one project after another. Perhaps you have a personal favorite that he has performed in the past.
The same is also becoming true of his son, Matteo. One of his most spectacular duets, however, is when he sings with his father. You might think back to the single, “Fall on Me” where they both sang beautifully in both English and Italian.
Matteo has a brother, Amos Bocelli and he is also featured on the latest album by his father. He plays the piano. When Andrea had the opportunity to record a duet with Ed Sheeran, both of his sons were amazed at the chance.
Sheeran is known worldwide because of his unique voice and the fact that he sings his songs with so much soul. When Andrea was approached about this potential collaboration, he wasn’t quite sure who he was dealing with but then he talked to his sons.
Ed came to Andrea at his Tuscany home to record the duet. They sang, ‘Perfect’, for Ed’s album, Divide. Andrea also wanted to know more about Sheeran and he shared this with the news:
“The strange thing was that he really, really wanted me to sing on that particular song, with an operatic touch to it – something that he didn’t think was actually feasible. But he was so determined that he came all the way to my house … The situation was very peaceful because I had my two sons with me who are great fans of his. So they were very excited and very happy to be able to listen to his voice live. It is a privilege and quite emotional to listen to a singer who sings live for you. My sons were in awe.”
Andrea and Matteo thought that another song will be recorded together. They also chose Sheron’s megahit, Perfect. Andrea begins singing in the back room and Matteo gets to stand in the spotlight.
You can tell that Matteo was toning down his classical training to a certain extent so that Sheeran could receive more of the credit. When he was finished with the solo, he gave the spotlight back to his father and Andrea warmly patted him on the back.
That is when the father took his turn. Andrea started singing in Italian and when you hear Perfect performed in the Italian language, it is like nothing you’ve heard before.
