Andrea Bocelli and Daughter Virginia Sing Enchanting Version of ‘Hallelujah’

There are people who would say that we don’t need another cover of Leonard Cohen’s beautiful ballad “Hallelujah.” However, there are people like my wife who love it in almost any cover she hears. The song is a classic and has been recorded and even reimagined by hundreds of performers since it was released in 1984. At the beginning of a new year, and one many of us hope gives us better things than last year did, it’s difficult to imagine that an artist could bring something new to this timeless classic. However, when Andrea Bocelli enters the scene, magic will invariably happen.

But Bocelli didn’t perform this beautiful song alone. He brought along a little lady he calls his “favourite fan.” Andrea Bocelli’s little girl, Virginia, is only eight years old, but she’s got the musical chops that seem to run in her family. Dad is, of course, a famous opera tenor, but Virginia’s older brother, Matteo, is a singing star in his own right and is going to have an amazing career. When you bring an adorable little girl and her famous dad together to sing a beautiful classic in an empty Italian opera house, you just know it’s going to be amazing, and it was. What’s surprising is that Virginia is a good singer.

She’s grown up in a musical household, of course, and maybe she’s had some lessons, but she actually has a good singing voice and an impressive vocal range. We’ve heard the little girl sing before, but she’s grown in range and I’d bet that sometime in the future, she’ll have a singing contract of her own, and will become one of the celebrated members of the musical Bocellis. Andrea Bocelli, who is 62 years old, performed the song with Virginia in the Teatro Regio di Parma in early December as a part of a Christmas concert.

The concert had songs from Bocelli’s “Believe” album. Virginia and Andrea sang while Andrea played the guitar. Watch this enchanting video below.
