You may never have heard of Denis Robinson of London, England before but after you hear what he does, you are never going to forget him. He heads to the St. Pancras train station three times per week and when he gets there, he makes sure that everyone gets a treat. You see, he knows that they keep a public piano in the station and he enjoys playing.
For the most part, anyone who is passing by does not really pay much attention. After all, he is 91-years-old and he has a hunched over at the keyboard. There was one particular day, however, when Denis just happened to be at the right place at the right time and we all get to enjoy it thanks to the power of the internet. He met an actress and she also happens to be a professional singer. Suddenly, people were stopping and watching.
Ceili O’Connor is the stranger who was passing by. She is with the international touring company of ‘Cats’ and she saw Denis sitting and playing the piano. Matthew Rowland plays Skimbleshanks in Ceili’s show and he was there to shoot the video on his phone.
When she plays in Cats, Ceili sings Memories, perhaps one of the best-known show tunes of all time. When she starts singing along with Denis, you can tell that she is putting her heart into it. No wonder people are stopping to listen to her sing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’.
A small crowd began to gather and he knew that something special was happening.
When he posted it to Twitter, it was with the caption: “We’re on our way to Brussels for the next leg of @CatsMusical tour. I saw this guy playing and called @CeiliOConnor as I knew he needed a singing partner. Captured a bit of the magic here. He was so sweet, saying Ceili ‘made his day’ and that she must be ‘in a show.’ Precious x”
People on Twitter responded:
Ceili was blown away with the response to the video but, as a showperson, she loves giving others joy. “Thank you for all the kind responses but the real star is my lovely new friend on the piano who lifted us all up by sitting down and playing his heart out. I could have sang with him all day,” she wrote on Twitter.
“I wanted to share this wonderful man with you because he certainly loves later life and is proving you can still spread joy and do what you love later on in life,” she added.
This was a wonderful treat for everyone that got to see it. It’s a good thing it hapened, because they are now off to Brussels, Belgium. It’s great that she made this memory and you can see it in this video:
