Tiny Preemie Born Nearly Size of 12-Inch Superman Action Figure Miraculously Survives and Is Now Thriving

A premmie baby boy who was once a 12-inch Superman toy managed to make a miraculous recovery proving that he’s truly a “man of steel” in the making. Today, he’s celebrating his incredible milestone with his life-long sidekick by his side. Logan Ray came into the world at only 23-weeks old, weighing a mere 1.5 pounds, and was roughly the same length as a toy action figure. Doctors were not optimistic about his chances; however, little Logan proved he was one tough little fighter. Each day of life would prove to be a miracle until the little one continued to grow for 105 days at Randal Children’s Hospital located in Portland, Oregon. After spending over three months getting stronger, the little guy was finally ready to go home.

His mother, Val, age 34, now takes adorable pictures of her son next to the same Superman doll as a way of reminding everyone just how far Logan has come.

“He is a little superhero himself. Even when he was just a pound-and-a-half in weight. I called him my little ‘tough guy’.”

And even today, Logan’s doctor stays in touch with Val via Facebook, asking how her “tough guy” is doing.

After his birth, nurses suggested that she take a picture with something next to him to give folks an idea of his size, so Val told Rob, her husband, to get something.

“I told him to pick out something that he thought would be appropriate like a doll that we could disinfect and put inside the incubator.

“He called me and said what about a Superman? I thought it was perfect!”

Well, the nerd in me would say “Wolverine” would have been a perfect choice, but hey, you can’t go wrong with Superman either!

During Val’s pregnancy, she was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix. This condition occurs when the cervix opens and shortens prematurely, which often causes women to miscarry. Val said:

“The doctors basically told Rob and I that they were going to send us home to miscarry.

“Both Rob and I looked at the doctor and said ‘we’re not going anywhere, whether we have him tomorrow or have him four months from now, we’re staying in the hospital’.

Proud husband and dad Rob said:

“She laid upside down basically with her head lower than her feet for 20 days without getting out of the bed to do anything.”

“To be honest, she’s incredible—she didn’t complain at all.”

After he was born, Logan was flown to another hospital as he was suffering from severe medical issues. But, against all the odds, he managed to pull through and was home with his family just in time for Christmas at their residence in Fort Bend, Oregon.

Now, four years later, Logan is a happy and healthy little boy with no health issues and still loves carrying around his Superman sidekick that’s always with him for every birthday celebration.

“He’s just an incredible little boy. A lot of these babies born at 23 weeks have tons of health problems but Logan…he’s a smart little kid, my little boy, he really is.”

We hope this heartwarming tradition continues for the rest of his hopefully long and happy life.
