Being stranded is never a good thing. Even as an adult, I get really nervous when my car has a flat or something and I feel stranded. Also challenging is being lost. It’s a scary feeling to not know where you are. Just imagine what it’s like for a toddler who has never been away from her family. A New York two-year-old recently found herself in exactly this situation. The little girl went missing in Ontario County, and the police received an emergency call saying that she was missing. It was on a Saturday, and the more time passed, the more terrifying the situation was sure to become.
The search team went into high gear to try to find the little girl before dark. The little girl was by herself and had no one by her side. The police knew that she could be anywhere, but the possibility of her being in grave danger was very real. Her finding her own way back home was impossible because she is so young. Police officers hoped to find her and they would find her still OK. The officer who was appointed to the search was a trooper named Kevin Henderson. He explained that it was getting closer to nightfall and would soon be both cold and dark.
He explained that they wanted to get the search started as soon as possible so that they could bring the little girl to safety. As soon as the team learned what was going on, they started searching. Another officer complained that when it came to missing children, it “can go really bad.” It’s a time-sensitive situation for them because of the cold weather. The temperature was dropping quickly, Brian Hotchkiss said.
First, Hotchkiss knocked on neighbor’s doors and asking them to check their property. However, their initial search didn’t turn up the little girl. It was Hotchkiss who decided to start searching on the nearby mountain. He said he knew that he wouldn’t sleep that night if he didn’t find her. Watch what happened in the news video below.
