Japan’s Oldest Wisteria Tree Is Almost Too Beautiful For This World

Located in Tochigi, Japan is the Ashikaga Flower Park, a 23-acre park that’s home to well over 350 wisterias as well as other flowering plants. However, the park’s biggest attraction is its 140-year-old wisteria tree believed to be the oldest of its kind in Japan. They call the plant the “Great Miracle Wisteria.” The tree features gorgeous curtains of purple wisteria, which at night can turn a deep shade of pink giving off the one most spectacular natural displays anyone can witness. Plus, the park is also home to other types of wisteria such as white and the ultra-rare yellow variety.

The tree is not the largest wisteria in the world, but it’s nevertheless impressive measuring an acre. And while most folks refer to them as trees, wisteria is actually large vines. And since the vines can become quite heavy, the purple/pink flowers you see are actually supported by a network of steel supports that allow visitors to enjoy the slender of these beautiful flowers while walking under them. One could only imagine just how many proposals and private weddings have taken place under this tree.
