A Closer Look at the ‘Untouchable’ 30-Plus Year Marriage of Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson

There isn’t a legetiment discussion concerning the very top of the Hollywood food chain without mentioning the name Tom Hanks. However, for over 30 years, the man is known as one of the nicest human beings on the planet, an Academy-award-winning actor, and an elite A-list Hollywood legend has another title he values much more — loving husband.

In fact, recently, Hanks had to show a crowd of over-eager and pushy fans his not-so “Mr. Rogers” side when they accidentally bumped into his wife. In an instant, Hanks was in a whole different mode from the affable, friendly, Forrest Gump-like persona, so many people know him for.

There’s absolutely no question no that Hanks and Wilson continue to be deeply in love with each other, and there’s nothing either wouldn’t do to protect their soulmate.

Both actors met over three decades ago when they fell in love with each other on the set of a 1985 comedy called “Volunteers,” also starring the late-great comedic legend John Candy.

Three years late, they would marry in 1988. But when asked about his amazing marriage on the red carpet, Hanks simply described it as “untouchable.”

Isn’t that just a fascinating word to describe marriage or any partnership?

“When we first looked at each other there was definitely a kind of a, ‘Hey, this is the place!’ I felt that anyway,” Hanks tells Entertainment Tonight. “I think the end result is that we got married for all the right reasons.”

Hanks further elaborated about those reasons, saying: “We just like each other. You start there.”

“Life is one thing after another and it’s actually more pleasant to be able to go home with someone you like to spend time with in order to get with it,” he says.

When US Weekly asked him about their healthy marriage, the actor said:

“We got married, we committed to each other, we love each other and we work hard at our relationship… Not only do we love each other, we really like each other, and we like being together, and we support each other and we keep the communication channels open. That’s always important.”

Wilson also talked about her incredible life with her husband. She said that they make sure they are always there to lend each other support through the good and bad times because, at the end of the day, that’s what marriage is all about. And, of course, Tom is there for his wife every step of the way.

Tom and Rita are just two examples of how it’s possible for a marriage to survive the temptations and dark side of fame and fortune. And over the years, they are still the best of friends. There’s one Hollywood marriage we can all admire and learn a lot from!

And April 2021, when the couple celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary, Wilson shared a heartwarming post on Instagram that read:

“33 years of marriage to my BFF, my lover, my man. Love wins. ❤️”
