If there is one thing that we all love doing, it is laughing. We will go out of our way to watch something funny or listen to a funny skit because it lifts our mood and makes us forget about our troubles for a while. Although there are many things that can make us laugh, it sometimes helps to go back to the classics. One of those options is the Carol Burnett Show, and when we look back on those skits from decades ago, they make us laugh just as hard as ever.
Who is your favorite comedian from The Carol Burnett Show? Many of us would probably think of Tim Conway more than any other. When he got on a roll, the other members of the cast couldn’t contain their laughter. In fact, it made it a point to try to get them to laugh and on many occasions, the laughter of the cast was the funniest part. That is clearly seen in this clip, which involves Tim Conway along with Carol Burnett and Vicki Lawrence. Vicki was playing a cranky old mother in this skit and she was sitting beside Carol on the sofa. She was only in her 20s at the time but they had her decked out to look the part.
The subject of this clip is a family that was sitting in the living room, playing a board game. Conway, Burnett, Lawrence and Dick Van Dyke are lined up on the sofa when Conway began to tell a story. It was about a visit he had made to a circus and it was so iconic, it became known as “the elephant story.”
Not every scene made it past the censors but we are happy that this one was kept so we can enjoy the ‘blooper’. Conway was trying to get the others to laugh and he just kept getting further and further out there with what he was saying.
Burnett was the first one to lose it when he was telling the story. Once she started laughing, the rest couldn’t help themselves. They had to do a second taping but Lawrence decided she would get some revenge.
Conway started his routine, switching things up so that he could get the cast laughing. He was doing a good job of it too, but Lawrence had something up her leave. In the end, the line from Lawrence would knock Conway off of the sofa but it wouldn’t make it past the censors. Fortunately, you can see it in this clip:
