If there’s one thing about Tom Cruise as an actor, it’s that he always gives whatever role he’s playing 110 percent. Seriously, I’ve never heard of one film where critics accused him of phoning it in or “lazy acting.” He’s a pretty intense individual, and at 57-years-old he’s still phenomenal shape, and I suppose he would need to be since he does all his own stunts for his iconic Mission Impossible franchise. Cruise began acting when he was 18, after moving to New York City to pursue a career in showbusiness (with the blessings of his parents). Now, when you hear of starting from the bottom, that’s precisely what Cruise did. After putting in his time in New York City as a busboy, he moved out to Los Angeles to audition for TV roles.
Once he moved to LA, he signed with the Create Artists Agency and was able to start his legendary acting career. Now, most actors start with very minor roles in forgettable movies. However, Cruise’s first role was a bit part in the 1981 romantic classic Endless Love. Later that year, he landed a significant support role in Taps. Then in 1983, he starred in The Outsiders, Risky Business, and All the Right Moves — which was a fitting title for his red hot career. It’s clear that Tom Cruise isn’t afraid of tackling new challenges, which is why when Jimmy Fallon challenged him to a lipsync battle, the Academy Award-nominated actor was more than happy to accept.
In the 2015 video, we see Fallon welcome Cruise on the show before explaining the rules and getting right down to action. Both men were performing two songs each, with Cruise starting things off with “Can’t Feel My Face,” by the Weekend. The actor delivered a decent, but somewhat subdued performance. Then it was Fallon’s turn, who announced that he was performing “Under Cover of the Night” by the Rolling Stones. Fallon channeled his inner-Mick Jagger and put on a wild and spirited show! Sensing the need to up his game, Tom Cruise feigned worry, asking Fallon, “What could I do now?” just before the notes from Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock & Roll” started to play and Cruise slid to grab the mic, striking his iconic pose from “Risky Business.” However, the actor looked over at his worried rival, smirked and said, “That wouldn’t be fair would it?”
